I live in Tontitown, AR, now, but address is Fayetteville. Next-door to Guy Ted, his wife and 4 kids. My grandkids are 7-11 years of age (as of May 2016). My son, Guy Ted, is a Baptist minister of a small congregation, and of course, I attend there. My daughter, Tammy, still lives in Fort Smith and works at the University of ARkansas, Fort Smith (previously Westark Community College, where I worked).
After my two young kids entered school I became a divisional secretary at Westark College in Fort Smith, AR. Enjoyed very much with many varied responsibilities. That school is now U. of AR, Fort Smith. For several years I substituted as teacher in the Springdale Public Schools, mainly Springdale High.
I've had breast cancer 3 times, the last time, in 1990. So I feel especially blessed to still be alive. It made me sad to see how many former acquaintances are deceased.
I try to only remember the good times at Big Sandy, but I DO wonder sometimes if I had not moved away from my parents before age 17 (which I regret), how would my life be different? My experience makes me appreciate my kids and grandkids, and treasure them all the more.
Cheers!
I remember the four of us in my dorm room (junior year) having a food party every Friday night. We were exhausted by Friday night so we would buy special food and drink treats. My roommates were Brenda Bryant (Deaton, now), Melva Mickelson, and Geri Johnston (Mason). Brenda and I have kept in contact all of these years, and I count her as one of my special friends in life.
I loved being in the chorale for 4 years. Put in unknown hours for the very least course credits, but got so close to many in that group. Music is still very special, inc. Blues.
Liked the hay rides, esp. if on a night with full moon; singing at Lake Loma and roasting marshmallows; once had a watermelon feast down there, ate my first piece of yellow melon.
Enjoyed working in the Feast/agriculture office for Dale Schurter. Had good friends there--Judy Porter, Mary Ann Henson (now Buckley), Geri Johnston Mason, Kay Pyle Kissee and Loren Weinbrenner. Hope I'm not leaving anyone out.
Loved, loved any dances. We even had a sock hop after a basket ball game.
Liked playing volleyball; basketball, esp. when we got to play against the Imperial girls. And learned to water ski on Lake Loma.
Two extra memorable trips were New Orleans and the Hemis-Fair in San Antonio, including a barbecued goat picnic in a park there that a church member-rancher provided.

I hope you have had a great birthday, Otto. MY son turned 48 today. He, his wife and 4 kids are in the Smokies. Today they took a hike to a waterfall. Saw 7 bears! They invited me to go (my old stomping grounds), but I am not up to riding all those miles, especially since they drive straight through. Oh, life was wonderful before osteoarthritis.
Happy birthday, dear Millie. I wish you and Carole would put comments on here once in a while.
