After graduating from AC in Pasadena in 1971, I worked on campus in Canadian Files and then for about a year (1973-1974) in the Spanish Department. I married Victor Gutierrez in 1974 (now divorced) and moved to Northern California. During that time I worked in the UC Davis Science Department and then in the Nuclear Medicine Department as a secretary. Moved to Miami, Florida in 1978 and did various secretarial-type jobs until I began doing medical transcription in 1995 and continue that work to this day.
I have a beautiful daughter, of whom I am very proud. She has a BS from NAU (Northern Arizona University) and has just started classes toward her Master's Degree. She works at the local community college for NAU dealing with college advising for online NAU students. She is also a wife (has a good husband), and the mother of two precious children for grandma to dote over!
Over the years I've enjoyed reading, movies, sewing, crafts and drawing. I've done quite a bit of traveling to many parts of the world (the old Soviet Union, Finland, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, England, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Macau, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Ontario, Canada, as well as quite a bit of travel in the U.S. including Hawaii). I became fluent in Spanish. I was even one of many invited guests once on Oprah's show (c. 1990) as a frustrated dieter!
In 1992 we survived the aftermath of hurricane Andrew, a CAT 5 storm! Thankfully, we were not home to ride out the storm itself. The four of us lived in a 25-foot travel trailer (no slide-outs) for 19 months and were actually unable to live in our home for a total of 23 months. That was one of those events people count time by - before Andrew, after Andrew!
After weathering hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma in 2005, I had finally had enough of Florida! So, in 2006, I put my medical transcription business on the Internet and moved "home" to Arizona. My daughter came with me and shortly after arriving she met and married a great guy and gave me those two wonderful grandbabies mentioned above. That move also gave me three years to spend with my parents before they passed away - Dad in July 2009, Mom in January 2010.
I embraced a new phase in my life and moved to Plano, Texas the summer of 2013. I had four great years there and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with wonderful friends. I felt very much at home in Texas! However, for several reasons, in the fall of 2017 I moved back to Kingman, AZ expecting to live here near my daughter and grandchildren for the remainder of my life....though I am cautious to never say "never" to moving again. We just don't know what might be around the next turn in our lives. :)
It is wonderful to hear from old friends -- love learning how you are, where you are, and what you are doing now. Don't be shy. Life is to way too short.
Wow, where to start? Getting back in time to those college days is quite a journey! Many memories are starting to surface since I've started reading the other profiles on this website. Wonderful memories of people I so enjoyed while in college.
I started my AC experience in BS in 1967-68. I went home for the summer in 1970 and was then transferred to Pasadena campus for my senior year 1970-71.
While in BS I worked in housekeeping and actually enjoyed most of it. Mrs. Hammer was good to us. I remember spending New Years (or maybe it was Thanksgiving - one of those holidays when they play football) at her house one very cold winter day - plenty to eat and we watched games on TV.
Some of the things one never forgets about BS are dorm life, dinning hall, early morning breakfast duty, Booth City!, sing-alongs, parties at the lake, "heartbreak hill", dances and sock-hops, basketball games, field day, Spanish Club, the kitchen staff, PE, bus trips to town and to Dallas - does anyone else remember Arnold's supper club?
The senior year I spent in Pasadena. I really missed my friends in BS. You might remember the Ministerial Ball (when students from BS came to Pasadena - January 1971). Lots of people, places and activities file through my head.
One thing I will never forget is, after performing my ventriloquist act at the FOT (BS 1967), I was called in to Mr. Kelly's office. He asked me if I "could do that anytime I wanted to". Too funny! Those were the days!
Added 06/06/2011 - Remember the night they finally put a man on the moon? It was lights out in the dorms but all the radios were on. That was very exciting. I was in Dorm 3 at that time, I think - with Nancy Wood, Debbie Woods and Virginia Curry. We played a lot of pranks on poor little Debbie. Sorry about that Debbie.
Added 08/21/2012 -- Got to thinking about the commissary - I remember faling in love with a new flavor of ice cream - rum raisin! Don't think I'd ever tasted it before college. And the Archway cookies, and castille soap, Breck shampoo...funny little details I'd nearly forgotten. Playing a game of pool once in a while was fun too.

Dear Jackie, I hope you have a wonderful birthday on the 7th. I hadn't realized before, but I should remember it easily. My twin brother, Harold, died one day after your birthday in 2019. Wish I could sit and have a conversation with you!

Bill, I know it hurts to watch a loved one pass on, especially our mothers. It sound like you had a very special mother, so you will have many good memories to hold onto until you see her again. I know that will give you comfort. Jackie

He knew exactly what to do on that rocking horse!

My favorite picture! Taken at Huntington Beach on Freshman Welcome Day, summer 1970. We lost Howard several years ago. I miss him and his wife, Beverly, very much.
